Sunset in the Park event is Sept. 17 at The Pavilion at The Theatre in the Park
POSTED: 09/14/2011
The answer is a special event called Sunset at the Park, which will take place from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at The Pavilion at The Theatre in the Park. Organized by the Shawnee Rotary Club in conjunction with the theater, this charity benefit event promises a fun-filled evening of food and fun.

Participants are encouraged to wear "creative western attire." Entertainment for Sunset in the Park will be provided by actors from The Theatre in the Park's recently-completed season, as well as exciting musical sets by local bands. Food will be provided by Hereford House, La Bodega, and Price Chopper. Beer and wine, as well gift and prize drawings throughout the evening, will also be featured. An auction is also planned as part of the event and will include a Mexican vacation valued at $1,750, as well as a variety of gift certificates for local hotels, restaurants, and businesses.

In addition to the theater, proceeds will benefit the Haiti Children's Nutrition Program, the Shawnee Rotary Club Foundation, as well as other charities supported by the local Rotary Club. This effort is in support of Rotary's mission to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders.

Tickets to Sunset in the Park, which also include various amounts of drink tickets, range in cost from $50 for individuals, to $250 for a foursome as well as corporate sponsorships ranging from $500 to $3,000. Purchase tickets at the event's website at

The event also provides a great opportunity to showcase the pavilion, which was opened by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District in mid 2010 and can accommodate 225 seated guests or about 350 standing guests.
