|Genealogy in the Heartland 50 Plus day trip set for Aug. 4|
This trip will take place on Thursday, Aug. 4, and will include stops at the National Archives in downtown Kansas City, Mo., and the Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence. Join Johnson County Genealogy Society Vice President Ken Leonard on this informative tour as he provides tips on organizing files and tracking family history. At the National Archives, participants can look for relatives' records from federal agencies, explore exhibits and access computer programs such as Ancestry, History Quest, and Footnote to discover information about their ancestors. After lunch at Grunauer's German Restaurant, the tour will head to the Midwest Genealogy Center where experts can answer questions, help participants search their databases of regional documents, and explain how to get "the biggest bang for your buck" in research. Participants are encouraged to bring information such as legal names, dates, and documents (no originals, please) that will help in genealogy research. Perform a catalog search for the keywords “day trip” to find these programs in the JCPRD’s Activities Catalog and online listings at www.jcprd.com.
This trip will leave at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4, from Antioch Park 6501 Antioch, Merriam, and return at approximately 4 p.m. that day. The cost is $59 per person and includes lunch.
While the JCPRD's 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the District's Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.
The JCPRD's Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online and for updated program listings, visit the District's website at www.jcprd.com.
