|Eighth-annual Paws in the Park Dog event is June 18 at Shawnee Mission Park Beach|
Presented by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District, this event will begin at 9 a.m. with a dog walk on the trails within Shawnee Mission Park. After this, the beach area will feature a number of impressive canine demonstrations and dog-related businesses. This annual event benefits homeless pets at a local shelter, and for anyone looking for a new best friend, a number of dogs will be available for adoption. All ages are welcome to register. Kids under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The entry fee for this four-hour event is $15 per dog, including a fashionable T-shirt for the dogs 's attending human. Members of the public who are not bringing a dog are welcome to attend for free. A $5 discount is available by donating dog-related items which will benefit a local animal shelter.
