|50 Plus program seeks Thrill Seekers for scuba diving, kayaking adventures|
This season, the program offers opportunities for participants to experience scuba diving and kayaking during separate programs. Both programs include transportation from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, as well as a one-hour pre-activity meeting beginning at 1 p.m. on the Wednesday before the activity and a one-hour post activity meeting at 1 p.m. on the Tuesday after the activity. At the post-activity meeting, a 50 plus staff member will share photos they take during the event. Participants will also be asked for their feedback on the program and suggestions for future Thrill Seekers adventures. Participants should bring a sack lunch to either activity.
Up first is Scuba Diving, which will take place on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Dive Shop, 7300 Frontage Rd, Shawnee.
Depending on the number of people who participate, this program will be offered in two-hour increments from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants have the option of staying all day or returning at a later time on the same day. The cost is $45 per person. This program is also intended as a teaser to full scuba classes which will be offered by the 50 Plus Department at the Dive Shop this summer.
Kayaking is set for April 19 at Longview Lake in conjunction with KC Paddlers. This six-hour program will also begin at 10 a.m. The cost is $112 per person.

Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the District’s Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.
The JCPRD Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. To register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online and for updated program listings, visit the district’s website at www.jcprd.com.
