JCPRD Beaches & Marinas opening soon

The marinas at Shawnee Mission, Kill Creek, and Heritage parks will open Saturday, May 28 for Memorial Day weekend. Shawnee Mission Park Marina will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Aug. 7. Kill Creek Park and Heritage Park marinas will be open from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, also through Aug. 7. All three marinas offer pedal boats rentals. Fishing boat, canoe and kayak rentals are also available at Shawnee Mission Park and canoe and kayak rentals are available at Kill Creek Park. Patrons should be aware that these facilities operate on a cash only basis, as credit cards and checks are not accepted. Rentals rates are listed in the Spring-Summer Activities catalog, available now, and on the District's website at www.jcprd.com. Fishing permits are also available at the Shawnee Mission and Kill Creek marinas.

Shawnee Mission Park and Kill Creek Park beaches also open for their seasons on May 28. Shawnee Mission Park Beach will be open from noon to 6 p.m. daily through Aug. 7. Kill Creek Park Beach will be open only on weekends with Friday, Saturday, and Sunday hours of noon to 6 p.m., also through Aug. 7. Daily rates at either facility for children 12 and under adults over 50 are $3 for Johnson County residents and $3.50 for nonresidents. Admission for adults is $5 for Johnson County residents and $5.50 for nonresidents. Season passes are also available.

Both beaches also offer special weekly opportunities for triathletes to practice open water swimming. On the specified nights, the beach is open from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for this purpose. The cost is $4 per person for Johnson County residents or $4.50 per person for nonresidents. At Shawnee Mission Park, these are offered on Tuesday and Thursday through Aug. 4, while at Kill Creek Park, they are offered on Monday from June 6 through Sept. 5 at Kill Creek Park.
