|Wicketball program for all ages begins April 19 in Shawnee Mission Park|
Wicketball combines soccer skills, golf layout and camaraderie, chess, billiards, and croquet-type strategies and the greatest thing it gets you outdoors! If you can kick a ball you can play! Ages 6-80 can play together, and it’s a great family sport. The object of the game is to kick the ball through the wicket hence the tagline, “Kick it Thru!” There are many ways to play, but it’s typically set up on a 1-2 acre grass course, preferably with rolling hills and trees. It can be played on snow or sand also. There are eight wickets set up and you play through one side first (1-8 red), then play back through the other side (8-1 black) to complete the entire course. You can play for low score or match play directly against one or more opponents. Doubles and triples are also lots of fun. The standard ball is a #5 soccer ball. It takes about one hour or so to play a full course of 16 wickets. Perform a catalog search for the keyword “wicketball” to find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities Catalog and online listings.
