Five home school arts-related classes offered in early March

The classes are: Basic Beginning Art, Art History, Basic Beginning Painting, Pottery Clay Creations, and Pottery Wheel Throwing, All classes will take place at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood, Roeland Park. Perform a catalog search for the keywords "home school" to find these programs in the JCPRD's Activities Catalog and online listings.

Basic Beginning Art is an exciting introduction to art for students in kindergarten through third grade. Everything from colors, shapes, light and shadows will be covered, as will basic color mixing. This class will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday beginning March 1. The cost for six 60-minute sessions is $37 per person for Johnson County residents or $41 per person for nonresidents.

Art History is for students in grades six through eight. Participants will learn about the masters and different areas and styles of art. This class will take place at 9 a.m. Thursday beginning March 3. The cost for six 60-minute sessions is $37 per person for Johnson County residents or $41 per person for nonresidents.

Basic Beginning Painting is for students in grades four through six and will cover different medium and aspects of art. Session two will start the painting process from developing a color wheel to putting paint to paper. This class will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday also beginning March 3. The cost for six 60-minute sessions is $37 per person for Johnson County residents or $41 per person for nonresidents.

Pottery Clay Creations is for students in kindergarten through third grade. Students will squish, pinch, pull, and pat clay into fanciful forms. This class will meet at 9 a.m. Friday beginning March 4. Pottery Wheel throwing is for grades four through eight. Participants will learn basic wheel-throwing on an electric pottery wheel. This class will meet at 11 a.m. Friday also beginning March 4. Fees for either of these pottery classes include clay, paint, and kiln firing, and six 90-minute lessons and are $69 per person for Johnson County residents or $76 per person for nonresidents.
