Variety of aquatics programs offered during Winter Water Wonderland starting Dec. 27

Now back for its second year, Winter Water Wonderland offers opportunities for those who would like to learn to swim. learn to teach swimming lessons, learn to be a lifeguard, and learn to train lifeguards. All programs will take place beginning Dec. 27 at the dome-covered Roeland Park Aquatic Center, 4843 Rosewood, Roeland Park.

In all, ten different levels of Learn to Swim classes are offered in a format of four 30-minute classes offered Monday through Thursday. With the exception of the parent and child classes, the various class levels are based on skill levels rather than age. All levels are taught under American Red Cross guidelines. The cost for four 30-minute lessons is $24 per person for Johnson County residents or $27 for nonresidents. Class times vary from 11 a.m. through 12:10 p.m. For specific times, consult the JCPRD's activities catalog on online listings at www.jcprd.com.

Water Safety Instructor is the name of a program which will train participants ages 16 and older to plan and conduct swimming and water safety programs. The Winter Water Wonderland session will begin at 9 a.m. and will involve four eight-hour sessions at a cost of $180 for Johnson County residents or $200 for nonresidents.

Water Park Lifeguard Training is a certification course through which participants ages 15 and older can learn how to prevent and respond to water emergencies at swimming facilities and water parks. The Winter Water Wonderland session will begin at 9 a.m. and will involve four eight-hour sessions at a cost of $168 for Johnson County residents or $185 for nonresidents.

Lifeguard Instructor is the name of a program which will train participants ages 17 and older to teach lifeguard training. The Winter Water Wonderland session will begin at 9 a.m. and will involve four eight-hour sessions at a cost of $220 for Johnson County residents or $240 for nonresidents.
