|Free New Horizons Band Concert set for Wednesday Dec. 8, at UMKC's Performing Arts Center|
This concert will feature a selection of holiday music and will be a joint performance with the Forever Young Choir from the Landon Center on Aging and will feature several combined numbers between the two groups.
The New Horizons Band is a program of the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District in conjunction with the University of Missouri - Kansas City's Conservatory of Music and Dance and Meyer Music. The band is a group of music-loving adults age 50 and beyond and includes brass, woodwind, and percussion. This group has been in existence for about six years and currently has about 50 band members. The band's interim director is Dr. Lindsey Williams, Assistant Professor of Music Education at UMKC's Conservatory of Music.
The band is currently open to anyone with an instrument and some musical background. A session for beginners will be offered in January 2011.
