Make great memories through Leap List program for 50 Plus
POSTED: 12/13/2013

Leap into fun memories with a new season of the Leap List program being offered by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

Leap List is meant to put a new twist on the "bucket lists" we've all heard of. These programs present an opportunity to commit and participate in activities you've always wanted to try.

Planned activities for the winter season will include Guitar Lessons Learn to Play, Cooking Lessons - Sushi 101 , and 5K Training for the Rock the Parkway Marathon. Each activity will take place during separate sessions.

First up are Guitar Lessons. This program is offered at 10 a.m. Thursday beginning Jan. 9 at the Sunset Building, 11811 S. Sunset Dr., Olathe. The cost for four one-hour lessons is $50 per person for Johnson County residents or $55 for person for nonresidents. This program will be offered again beginning Feb. 6

Cooking Lessons - Sushi 101 will be offered beginning Feb. 4 at the Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, and again beginning on Feb. 25 at the Grace Methodist Church, 11485 Ridgeview Road, Olathe. For either offering, the cost for three two-hour lessons is $62 per person for Johnson County residents or $68 for person for nonresidents.

5K Training for the Rock the Parkway Marathon will be offered beginning Feb. 18 at the New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, and again beginning on Feb. 20 at the Mill Creek Activity Center. The cost for eight 50-minute sessions is $136 per person for Johnson County residents or $150 for person for nonresidents.

To find these programs in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 plus and then enrichment & special interests. In the printed catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “memories.”

While the JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the District’s Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.

The JCPRD Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online and for updated program listings, visit the district’s website at www.jcprd.com.
