|Scott McDonald Jazz Quartet to be featured during free concert Aug. 22|
The series is called "A Lot of Night Music" and involves monthly concerts through September under a tent in the front parking lot at Shawnee Heartland. The series is sponsored by The Fine Arts Institute and the 50 Plus Program of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
Keyboardist Scott McDonald of South Kansas City has been playing piano since he was seven and he holds a bachelor's degree in music theory from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. He has recorded five albums, including two all-original compilations. He has previously played keyboard for Andy Williams and Glen Campbell and currently performs for private and corporate events and concert settings. Joining him for the Aug, 22 event will be Doug Talley on saxophone, Rod Lincoln on drums, and Greg Whitfield on bass. The material that the group performs ranges from jazz standards, Latin jazz, to pop jazz.
The final concert in the "A Lot of Night Music" series will be an a celebration of Oktoberfest with the Don Lipovac Polka Band on Sept. 19. All concerts, which will last about an hour, are free and open to all ages. For more information, call (913) 248-6688.
