|Cars in the Park on Aug. 21 benefits Special Olympians|
Vehicle owners are invited to shine their cars, trucks, or motorcycle and participate in this event, which is being planned by the JCPRD's Children's Services Department. Cars in the Park will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission to the show is free for spectators. Entertainment will include music and dance. There will also be concessions. The inaugural event in 2009 drew 161 entries and more than 700 spectators and featured a variety of cars. For anyone interested in entering the show, vehicle registrations are being taken through the day of the event. The fee is $20 per vehicle or $25 per vehicle on event day. Judging of the cars will take place at noon with an award presentation at 2 p.m. and all participants must be registered and on-site by noon to be judged. Following the awards ceremony at 2 p.m., featured vehicles are invited to cruise through beautiful Shawnee Mission Park. This event will take place rain or shine.
