|The Theatre in the Park Auditions set for Feb. 27 & 28|
All of this year's auditions will take place at the Shawnee Mission North High School, 7401 Johnson Drive, Overland Park.
Auditions for ages six through adult will take place on a first-come, first served basis from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, and Sunday, Feb. 28. Please be aware that a waiting time of three to four hours is not uncommon and in fairness, auditioners will not be taken out of number order. The production teams will break for approximately an hour each day for lunch. The break is usually set from noon to 1 p.m., but may change depending on circumstances. Call back auditions will take place March 6 and 7 and will be by invitation only. The majority of the roles will be cast directly from the initial auditions and a call back audition will not be required.
Those planning to audition are required to complete an audition form online in advance at www.theatreinthepark.org and bring nine copies of the form with them to the audition. Having the forms filled out in advance will ensure that participants' information is readily available to directors, choreographers, and production staff. Computer access will not be available at the audition site. Digital photos will be taken as part of the audition process. More information on auditions, including specific requirements for vocal and dance auditions, is also available on the theater's website at wwwtheatreinthepark.org.
Those who are unable to attend the auditions in person may submit a recorded audition on video tape or DVD. Videos should include 16 bars of singing and an example of dance or movement and should be no longer than four minutes in total length. Video tapes or DVD must be received at the theater office by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, and will not be returned.
The Theatre in the Park's musical productions planned for 2010 and their key production staff are: Jesus Christ Superstar, with Director Phil Kinen and Choreographer Christopher Barksdale of the Kansas City Ballet, June 11-13 and 15-18; Annie, with Director Tammy Ruder and Choreographer Brian McGuiness, June 25-27 and July 1-3; All Shook Up, with Director Greg Shaw and Choreographer Liz Ernst, July 9-11 and 15-18; and Cinderella, with Director Art Suskind and Choreographer Caroline Braverman, July 23-25 and July 29-Aug. 1.
With the exception of All Shook Up, which has a nine-week rehearsal schedule, all shows will have a seven-week rehearsal schedule. To be considered for any role, performers must be willing to commit to rehearsals, including some weekend rehearsals (see specific tentative schedules online), in addition to the performance dates.
