|Experience local talent at free Senior Follies on Oct. 20 at Jewish Community Center|
This year's Senior Follies has a new venue as well as a new seasonal setting, but still promises an exciting afternoon of great entertainment.
Now in its seventh year, the 2013 Follies will take place beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, in Suite 101 of the Jewish Community Center, 5801 W. 115th St., Overland Park. The event generally lasts about two hours and is free of charge for both audiences and performers.
As of late September,19 different acts were signed up for this year's show, including singers, dancers, musicians, and a comedian. Baesel said it's possible there could be space left for additional acts, but anyone interested would need to contact her right away by calling (913) 831-3355.
JCPRD hosted the first follies event at Shawnee Mission South High School in 2007. That event was the Men’s Follies. In 2008, the event moved to the community college. In fall 2010, a Women’s Follies event was introduced and was also well received. In 2011, limited access to a venue resulted in combining the separate men's and women's events into a single Senor Follies, which was another great success.
The JCC location has 500 seats and organizers expect many of them to be full.
