|Public Input Session on State's Outdoor Recreation Plan Set for Oct. 22 at Shawnee Mission Park|
One of seven public comment sessions being conducted across Kansas concerning the State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) will take place on Oct. 22 in Shawnee Mission Park, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee. The meeting is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Board Room of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District's Administrative Building, located behind the John Barkley Visitors Center at the main entrance to the park.
The public input sessions are part of the state's efforts to update it's SCORP by the end of the year in order to satisfy funding requirements. In 2002, approximately $1.8 million was available for community outdoor recreation projects funded through the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund. Eligible projects include playgrounds, ballparks and other outdoor facilities.
In the past, the JCPRD has used Land and Water Conservation Funds as a funding source for a number of projects, including portions of the development of the Mill Creek Streamway Park, Stoll Park, Ernie Miller Park, Heritage Park, Sunflower Park and others.
