|Aug. 1 is initial deadline for entering new Cars in the Park event|
Sought are vintage or contemporary cars, as well as trucks, hot rods, and motorcycles. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Johnson County Park and Recreation District's Special Olympics/ Special Populations program. Judging of entries will take place at noon with an award presentation at 3 p.m. Following the event at 4 p.m., participants are invited to cruise through beautiful Shawnee Mission Park. The first 250 participants will receive "goody bags" containing coupons, car products, and an event dash plaque. The show is free for spectators to attend and will also feature music and dance, concessions, and door prizes, as well as activities in a "Kids Alley" and a model car contest. The event will take place rain or shine.
The cost to enter the event is $20 per vehicle through Aug. 1. After that date, registrations will increase to $25 per vehicle and will be accepted through the day of the event. To register by phone, call (913) 831-3359.
