Try archery lessons through Leap List program for 50 Plus beginning Oct. 10 or 14
POSTED: 09/18/2013
Archery is the latest skill to be covered through a new program being offered by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

Leap List is the name of the program, which is meant to put a new twist on the "bucket lists" we've all heard of. These programs present an opportunity to "leap into memories" and participate in activities you've always wanted to try. Each Leap List program is intended as an introductory course with different activities each session through which participants can determine if they want to pursue those activities further.

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 plus and then enrichment & special interests. In the printed catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “memories.”

Archery lessons are offered through the Kansas State Archery Association at an indoor location in Olathe. One class will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursdays beginning Oct. 10 and participants will meet at the Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee. A second class will meet 10 a.m. Monday starting Oct. 14 at Grace Methodist, 11485 Ridgeview Road, Olathe. The cost for four one-hour lessons is $23 for Johnson County residents or $25 for nonresidents. Transportation from the meeting locations to the offsite class location is included in the class.

Spanish lessons will be the final Leap List activity of the fall season and are set to begin Nov. 7 and 18. During September, horseback riding lessons were offered through the program.

While the JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the District’s Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.

The JCPRD Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online and for updated program listings, visit the district’s website at
