|KC Wildlands Sets Aug. 24 Workday at Shawnee Mission Park|
A KC Wildlands workday has been scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 24 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Shawnee Mission Park.
Interested parties are invited to assist with land stewardship in the form of removal of woody growth from a prairie remnant located near Ogg Road, on the north side of the lake. This is the fourth workday the District has conducted in conjunction with Kansas City WildLands, a conservation coalition initiated in early 2001. A similar land stewardship program will also take place simultaneously at the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks’ Prairie Center property, located at 135th Street and Cedar Niles Road in Olathe.
The District is a partner with KC Wildlands. The group defines itself as "a conservation coalition protecting biological diversity through citizen-based restoration of Kansas City's natural communities." Other charter members of the group include park and recreation agencies throughout the area, the Missouri Department of Conservation, and Kansas Wildlife and Parks.
For additional information or if you would like to register to help, please call KC Wildlands Coordinator, Linda Lebrhaum at (816) 561-1061 x116 or e-mail at email@example.com.
