|Johnson County artists to be featured during Art Fest exhibit at Ernie Miller Nature Center|
The works of 42 Johnson County artists will be showcased during the fourth annual Johnson County Art Fest exhibit opening Sunday, Nov. 2. The juried exhibition runs through Nov. 23 at the Ernie Miller Nature Center located at 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway in Olathe.
There is no admission charge to the exhibit which will be open for public viewing during the Nature Center’s regular hours: 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. The exhibition will be closed on Veterans Day, November 11.
Initially presented in celebration of the county’s Sesquicentennial in 2005, Art Fest has continued as an annual tribute to the widely diverse talents of the many artists residing in Johnson County. This year's exhibit features a variety of media including paintings, stoneware, photography, stained and fused glass, and mixed media.
All of the pieces on display will be available for purchase and a portion each sale will benefit the Nature Center. Retail prices range from $125 to $5,000.
Sponsored by M&I Bank and the Johnson County Park and Recreation District, Art Fest was open to previously juried artists 21 years of age and older currently residing in Johnson County. In all, 247 entries were submitted by 90 artists for this year's exhibit. This compares to 144 entries from 52 artists for the inaugural Art Fest in 2005.
Three of this year’s exhibitors will be awarded $1,000 Outstanding Artist prizes. There will also be purchase awards totaling up to $2,500 for art to be placed on permanent display in Johnson County Park and Recreation District facilities.
The exhibition was judged by Bruce Hartman, Director of the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art at Johnson County Community College. The Art Fest Organizing Committee consists of Randy Knight, A. J. LoScalzo, Alberta McGrath, and Nancy Wallerstein.
