$5000 Scholarship Presented to local Youth during Fishing Rodeo
POSTED: 06/28/2002

A local youth who participated in the Kids Fishing Rodeo at Shawnee Mission Park Lake in 2001 was presented with a $5,000 scholarship during this year's event on Saturday, June 22.

Kyle Bennett of Mission was the winner of a national drawing conducted by Crappie USA Inc. in conjunction with the free local event here cosponsored by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District, as well as other similar events conducted across the country. The scholarship was presented at the start of the 2002 Fishing Rodeo.

The annual event, which in 2002 completed its fifth year at Shawnee Mission Park Lake, is free to the public and open to children 12 and under. Participants have a chance to win contests for the heaviest stringer and for big fish and receive a gift pack containing coupons and fishing supplies and qualify for the next national drawing for a $5,000 scholarship. About 100 kids participated in the 2002 Kids Fishing Rodeo.
