|Kill Creek Park Beach & Marina Now Open on Weekends|
A beach and marina at the Johnson County Park and Recreation District's new Kill Creek Park near De Soto are now open on weekends for summer use.
The new 850-acre park is located at 11670 Homestead Lane (written instructions appear below). The new park opened in November 2001 and will be left largely undeveloped. It features magnificent prairie and lowland vistas accessible only by walking trails.
The developed portion of the park includes a 26.5-acre lake featuring a swimming beach with a bathhouse and a marina, which are both open to the public for the first time this summer.
The Kill Creek Park Beach opened June 11 and is open weekends through Aug. 11. The Beach is open from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. For cost for children 12 and under and senior adults 50 and above is $3 for Johnson County residents or $3.50 for nonresidents, while the cost for adults is $4 for Johnson County residents or $4.50 for nonresidents.
The Kill Creek Park Marina opened June 1 and also offers weekend hours through Aug. 11. The marina is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and offers canoes, pedal boats, sailboards and a row boat. Please note that no fishing is allowed at Kill Creek Park this year in order to allow fish populations to become established.

Kill Creek Park's entrance is located near 116th and Homestead Lane. To get to the park, get off of Kansas Highway 10 at the Kill Creek exit and proceed south to 115th Street. Turn right and go to Homestead Lane. Take a left onto Homestead and the park entrance is on the right near the crest of the first hill.
