|Travel to Conception Abbey and Clyde Convent in northwest Missouri on Oct. 22|
Travel to northwest Missouri for a peaceful visit to Conception Abbey during a day trip being planned in late October by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
Conception Abbey and Clyde Convent is the name of this trip, which will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Participants will tour the beautifully-restored Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and hear about this monastery, which was established in 1873. Travelers will enjoy music and a service by the Benedictine Monks, partake in a delicious lunch, and have time to peruse the gift shop in the Abbey's guest center. Next, make a short trip to the convent in Clyde, Mo., and visit the Adoration Chapel. Hear about its Swiss origins and see spectacular mosaics, wood carvings, and stained glass windows.
To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 plus and then under travel. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords “day trip.”
The Conception Abbey and Clyde Convent trip will leave from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, and return about 5:30 p.m. that day. The cost for this nine-hour trip, including transportation, tours, and lunch, is $59 per person.
While the JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the District’s Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.
