|Artist Named for First Free Concert|
An outside entertainment firm which has rented The Theatre in the Park Facility for a series of free family concerts this summer and fall has announced the act for the first show.
The group Liverpool will present its Beatles tribute show on May 17 as the first of nine free concerts. Gates will open at 6 p.m., and the concert will begin at 7 p.m. with opening act, the Jeff Scheetz Band. The free concert series is being presented by Mid-America Events and Entertainment. For more information call (816) 966-1520. Acts for the remaining eight concert dates, which all take place in August and September, have yet to be announced. Because this is a rental and not an event being presented by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District, beer will be sold during the concerts.
Another unrelated concert will take place at The Theatre on May 18. That event is an anniversary concert being presented by radio station 106.5 FM The City originally scheduled for last September. The concert will feature Rick Braun, plus the sounds of smooth jazz vocal stylist Marilyn Scott. Tickets are $15 and are available through TicketMaster (816) 931-3330.
The Theatre in the Park is located in Shawnee Mission Park with a separate entrance at 7710 Renner Road, Shawnee, and is owned by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District.
