|New Brunch Bunch Walking Group Plans Final Summer Walk for Aug. 24|
Giving participants an opportunity to make new friends while enjoying a variety of local trails is the aim of a new walking group being organized by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District.
The informal group is called the Brunch Bunch Walking Club and its final two outings of the summer are scheduled for Aug. 10 and 24.
A 50 Plus staff member designates the walking site and a restaurant for each outing and participants need only show up to walk, talk, and enjoy brunch. The outings are escorted by a staff member, but participants are responsible for transportation and their own meal expenses. Each outing takes place on a Friday and begins at 8 a.m. The cost for each three-hour outing is $2 per person, payable on site, and no advance registration is required. However, please rsvp for each walk at (913) 236-4343 until a core group of walkers is established. Search for the keywords "walking club" to find this program in the JCPRD's Activities Catalog and online listings.
The Aug. 10 outing will involve walking on the Indian Creek Trail at Frontier Park, 15501 West Indian Creek Parkway, Olathe, and eating at the Hy-Vee at 16100 W 135th St, Olathe. The Aug. 24 outing will involve walking the trails at Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, and eating at the Panera Bread at 8803 W. 75th St., Merriam.
