|Off-Leash Dog Area Parking to be expanded at Shawnee Mission Park|
In order to better serve patrons, the parking lot at Shawnee Mission Park's popular Off-Leash Dog Area is scheduled for expansion.
Construction is scheduled to begin April 22. Park Manager Grant Evans said the plan is to expand the available parking by about 35 spaces to the north of the existing lot.
The majority of the existing lot will be available during construction and the Off-Leash area will remain open. Pet owners are cautioned to be mindful of their animals, as heavy equipment will be in use. Alternate routes from the parking lot to the Off-leash area will be marked and should be used to assure the safety of patrons and their pets.
The first phase of parking lot construction will involve grading and graveling and is expected to be completed to the point of being usable by April 29. Asphalting of the lot will take place later this spring.
