22nd Annual In Step and In Shape Walk at Antioch Park

Celebrate summer at the “In Step and In Shape Walk” and picnic. Enjoy a morning of walking, trying new forms of fitness, visiting vendors, and fun activities. During lunch, sit back and enjoy some musical entertainment and a guest speaker. Walk participants check in at shelter #3 at 9 am. This fun-filled morning you won’t want to miss is $9 per person. Monty Python’s “Spamalot” (Rated R) at The Theatre in the Park

Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, “Spamalot” retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people. So, grab a blanket or chair and a picnic dinner and enjoy an evening under the stars! Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for youth (ages 4-10), and children 3 and under are free. Stories Under the Stars at the Ernie Miller Park Amphitheater

Enjoy old-fashioned family fun with stories that will delight the young and the young at heart. JCPRD Special Olympics & Feed the Need Annual Golf Tournament

Join us for a terrific morning of golf during the JCPRD Special Olympics & Feed the Need Golf Tournament at Heritage Park Golf Course. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit JCPRD Special Olympics and Johnson County food pantries. Your tournament fee includes greens fee, golf cart, registration gifts, hole prizes, on-course beverages and snacks, and a BBQ lunch. Overnight Fishing at Heritage Park

Grab your fishing pole and lantern for the first overnight fishing opportunity of the year at Heritage Park - and it’s a special one! This opportunity coincides with our “Free Fishing, Boating & Archery Weekend” as well as the State of Kansas’ “Free Fishing and Park Entrance Days” at state parks whereby state fishing permits are also waived. The park will be open for fishing only and park police officers will be on duty throughout the night.

Free Fishing, Boating and Archery Weekend at Various JCPRD Parks

Take advantage of this annual permit-free weekend for fishing, boating (Shawnee Mission, Heritage and Kill Creek Parks only), and archery (Shawnee Mission Park only). This coincides with the State of Kansas’ “Free Fishing and Park Entrance Days” at state parks whereby state fishing permits are also waived. Fishing, boating, and archery permits will be waived in the designated JCPRD parks on these days only. JCPRD trout permits are still required if fishing for trout at Shawnee Mission and Kill Creek Park lakes. Regular park hours for these days are 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Kill Creek, Heritage* and Shawnee Mission parks, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Antioch Park, and dawn to dusk at the Streamway parks. Please call for more information. *Heritage Park will be open from 11 p.m. - 5 a.m. for overnight fishing, fishing and boating permits will not be required for this weekend only.

A Day in the Park at Shawnee Mission & Kill Creek Parks

Join us for this free, day-long celebra¬tion of our community’s trails, parks and recreational spaces. Enjoy a wide variety of activities for the entire family throughout Shawnee Mission Park and along the adjoining Streamway trail. Take advantage of free admission to the beach at Kill Creek Park from noon to 6 pm. Enjoy free half-hour pedal boat, kayak, and paddleboard rentals at the marinas in Shawnee Mission Park from 10 am to 7 pm and free half-hour pedal boat, canoe, and kayak rentals at the marina in Kill Creek Park from 1 pm to 5 pm. Concessions will be available at Shelter #3 in Shawnee Mission Park 10:30 am to 2 pm. The event is being held in conjunction with National Trails Day and coincides with JCPRD’s annual free fish¬ing weekend when both Kansas and District fishing and boating permits are waived. Mid-Summer’s Night Cache at Shawnee Mission Park

Looking for a cool way to keep the kids busy this summer? This modern day scavenger hunt is a great way to get out of the house and get moving. Each family is loaned a GPS device and given instructions on how to find the caches hidden around the Small Lakes area of Shawnee Mission Park. Receive a prize after finding the caches, then enjoy grilled hotdogs and S`mores. Meet at Shelter #2. This two-hour session is just $11 ($13 nonresident) per person, or $29 ($32 nonresident) for a family (up to four.) Overnight Fishing at Kill Creek Park
