JCPRD Park Summer Hours Begin

Summer hours go into effect March 1 for many JCPRD parks. These summer hours will stay in effect through Oct. 31. District parks impacted by the new hours are: Antioch Park, Heritage Park, Shawnee Mission Park, Thomas S. Stoll Memorial Park and Kill Creek Park. Other District parks with year-round dawn to dusk hours include: Ernie Miller Park, Sunflower Nature Park and Streamway Parks System access points. Animal Tales Storytime - Moonlight Animals at Ernie Miller Nature Center

Do you know what happens in the forest after dark? Join us for this listen and learn activity for children ages two to six as we shed light on what animals do at nighttime. The 30-minute program features stories, songs and a visit from a special animal friend. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The cost of the program to be paid at the site is $2 per person including adults. Pre-registration is not required. Please call for more information.

Irish Celebration with Celtique at Matt Ross Community Center

Celebrate National Irish American Heritage Month with a special performance of Irish music by the band Celtique. Instruments played include guitar, tenor banjo, bodhran, and keyboards. Enjoy Irish trivia and the opportunity to learn a basic Gaelic dance. Refreshments served. This spirited holiday event is just $9 per person. Please call and register by March 4.

Kids’ Night Out - St. Patrick’s Day Party (Ages 7-12) at Roeland Park Community Center

Shhh! It’s really Parents’ Night Out! Only kids are allowed to this magical night of St. Patrick’s Day fun. They’ll search for clues in a Leprechaun’s scavenger hunt leading them to his pot of gold, create St. Patrick’s Day crafts, eat dinner, and enjoy a shamrock treat. Dinner is provided. Wear Green! Spring Geocaching Event at Antioch Park

Geocache this Spring Break! Geocaching is a modern day scavenger hunt using GPS (Global Positioning Systems.) Learn to track each cache in a fun, relaxed environment with our GPS units. After the hunt join us at Shelter four for hotdogs and s’mores. Participants registered as a family will receive one GPS unit per family. Those registering as individuals will each receive a GPS unit. Preregistration required by March 7. This two-hour session starts at 10 AM and is just $10 ($11 for nonresident) per person, or $27 ($30 nonresident) for a family (up to four.) Spring Fling Fun at Ernie Miller Nature Center (2 Sessions)

Come enjoy spring with a trip to Ernie Miller Nature Park. Visitors are welcome to view the aquarium and hike the trails all week. Park staff will entertain guests with a special program each day. Every program will feature live animals. One 45 minute session is just $3 per person, including adults. Sessions start at 10AM AND 2PM The sessions that will be featured are: Monday - Animal Clues: Kick off spring break by solving animal mysteries. Tuesday - Celtic Heritage: Hear stories and legends to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Wednesday - Predators in the Sky: Learn all about hawks and owls. Thursday - Surprising Snakes: Fascinating or feared? Come see snakes live and up close. Friday - Wildlife Adventures: Discover the wild animals that live at Ernie Miller Nature Park. Easter Bunny Hide and Seek at Shawnee Mission Park

The Easter Bunny is hiding somewhere in Shawnee Mission Park waiting for your family to find him! The hunt begins with lunch at Shelter #1 before setting out on your adventure. You’ll drive to different places in the park to solve the clues he left, each clue brings you closer to where the Easter Bunny is hiding. Pictures with the Easter Bunny and goodies for the kids are available at the final location. This fun family event is just $10 per person ($11 nonresidents) or $27 per family of four or less ($30 nonresidents). 2015 Auditions for The Theatre in the Park at Blue Valley High School

Dust off your dance shoes and warm up your vocal cords...it's time for the 2015 auditions for The Theatre in the Park! Auditions for ages seven through adult will take place on a first-come, first-served basis from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29. The production teams will break for approximately an hour each day for lunch. Call-back auditions are set for April 4 and 6 and will be by invitation only.
