Wildlife Webs at Ernie Miller Nature Center

This Sunday our presentation will feature live animals and reveal the mysteries of the food chain. Children of all ages will enjoy discovering the importance and habits of each animal and its place in nature. The cost of the program to be paid at the site is $3 per person including adults (ages two and under are free). Pre-registration is not required.

50 Plus Mardi Gras Mah Jongg at Roeland Park Community Center

“Laissez les bon temps roulez!” Let the good times roll at this Mardi Gras marathon of Mah Jonng! Bring your friends, favorite foursome, or meet new players and enter to win prizes. Animal Tales Storytime - Animal Babies at Ernie Miller Nature Center

They are tiny and adorable…join us for this listen and learn activity for children ages two to six as we learn all about animal babies! The 30-minute program features stories, songs and a visit from a special animal friend. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The cost of the program to be paid at the site is $2 per person including adults. Pre-registration is not required.

JCPRD Park Summer Hours Begin

JCPRD summer park hours go into effect March 1 for many JCPRD parks. These summer hours will stay in effect through Oct. 31. District parks impacted by the new hours are: Antioch Park, Heritage Park, Shawnee Mission Park and Kill Creek Park. Other District parks with year-round dawn to dusk hours include: Camp Branch Glade, Ernie Miller Park, Thomas S. Stoll Memorial Park, Sunflower Nature Park, Camp Branch Glade, Stilwell Community Park and Streamway Parks System access points. 2017 Auditions for The Theatre in the Park at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center

Dust off your dance shoes and warm up your vocal cords...it's time for the 2017 auditions for The Theatre in the Park! The production teams will break for approximately an hour each day for lunch. Irish Celebration with Celtique at Matt Ross Community Center

Celebrate National Irish American Heritage Month with a special performance of Irish music by the band Celtique. Instruments played include guitar, tenor banjo, bodhran, and keyboards. Enjoy Irish coffee and refreshments and the opportunity to learn a basic Gaelic dance. This spirited holiday event is just $9 per person. Please register by March 1 by calling.

2017 Spring Break Trout Program at Two JCPRD Lakes

Start your Spring Break week with this great activity for the kids. Watch as 600 lbs. of trout are released in Kill Creek Park Lake and 1,400 lbs. are released in Shawnee Mission Park Lake. Kill Creek will be stocked at 2:30 p.m. and Shawnee Mission Park at 3:45 p.m. Both lakes will be closed to fishing until the parks’ open at 5 a.m., Saturday, March 11.

Spring Fling Fun at Ernie Miller Nature Center

Come enjoy spring with a trip to Ernie Miller Nature Park. Visitors are welcome to view the aquarium and hike the trails all week. Park naturalists will entertain guests with a special program each day. The Spring Fling Day & Program: Monday - Animal Tales, Tuesday - Birds of Prey, Wednesday - Surprising Snakes, Thursday - Wildlife Webs, Friday - Heritage Celebration. Every program will feature live animals. One 45 minute session is just $3 per person, including adults and starts at 10:30 am and 11:15 am. For more information, please call.

St. Patrick’s Day Dance at Matt Ross Community Center

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with 40s and 50s tunes from The Playboys. Wear your green for a chance at prizes for “Best Irish Dress.” Enjoy complimentary Irish coffee and lime green punch. March is Women’s History Month. Let’s celebrate the rich past of American women and girls. Bring your favorite doll and yourself dressed in your favorite fashion from American history. Hear of trials and triumphs from women throughout the centuries. See the fashions of girls during Native American, Revolutionary, Pioneer, Civil War periods, and more. Have tea with your doll and your fellow American women. This inspiring event is just $7 per person, including adults, $8 nonresidents.
