Fall Group Hayrides at Shawnee Mission & Heritage Parks

Enjoy the outdoors by scheduling your group for a hayride through Heritage Park or the beautiful Oak Ridge Parklands in Shawnee Mission Park. Our hayrides conclude with a warm campfire where marshmallows and apple cider await. The one-hour hayride and one-hour campfire are just $7 per person, and groups will need to reach an $80 minimum for their ride. Hayrides are available at Shawnee Mission Park seven days a week and Heritage Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please call to reserve a date and time for your group. Hayrides are available from September 16 through November 19. Two weeks advance registration is required.

Fall Trout Stocking at Shawnee Mission Park

Join us for this exciting annual fall event as 1,000 pounds are stocked at Kill Creek Park Lake at 2:30 p.m. and 2,000 pounds of trout are stocked in Shawnee Mission Park Lake at 3:45 p.m. Both lakes will be closed to fishing until the parks’ opening at 5 am, Saturday, Oct. 28. KidScape Happiest Hour “21 and over” Halloween Party at JoCo Arts & Heritage Center

Release your inner child at the Johnson County Museum and KidScape, at an after-hours Halloween party for adults only! Wear your costume or come as you are and enjoy games, light refreshments, and fun without the kids! This fun event $15 per person, $14 for museum members. Register online today!

Family Overnight Camping at TimberRidge Adventure Center

Looking for some unplugged time with your kids? Come enjoy an overnight experience together in the great outdoors! Event will begin with tent set-up and dinner, followed by a sunset hike and campfire, program activities end at 9 pm. Group breakfast will be made available 7 - 8 am with event ending by 8 am. Don’t have a tent, but want to come? We have one you can rent. This is a great way to try camping without purchasing all the equipment. Due to time of year please be prepared for cooler evening temperatures. This outdoor family adventure is just $35 for a family of 2, $37 for nonresidents, add an additional camper for $18, rent a tent for $15. Register online today!

The History of Dixieland Music at Roeland Park Community Center

Back by popular demand! The KC Dixieland Band interacts with the audience by providing an oral and visual presentation on the history of Dixieland music, performed by the entire band, live! Owl Prowl at Ernie Miller Nature Center

All sessions are currently full. Call (913) 764-7759 to be placed on a waitlist. Whoooo makes their home in Ernie Miller Nature Park? Who else but the Great Horned, Barred, and Screech Owls. Come for an informative talk featuring live owls and an evening hike through the park. You’ll never know whooo you might spot! Come dressed for the weather and warm up with a cup of hot cider after the hike. This event is sure to be a “hoot” and is just $8 per person, $9 for nonresidents. Call for more information.

Matinee at the Museum - “In the Heat of the Night” at JoCo Arts & Heritage Center

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Johnson County Museum with a special showing of “In the Heat of the Night.” Winner of the 1967 Academy Award for Best Picture, this critically-acclaimed film noir stars Sidney Poitier as Philadelphia PD Detective Virgil Tibbs, who finds himself recruited to help with a murder investigation in a racially hostile southern town. The movie is unrated (features strong language). Concessions available for purchase. Pre-registration encouraged, tickets can be purchased the day of event if seats are available. Fall Public Hayride at Oak Ridge Parklands at Shawnee Mission Park

In addition to fall hayrides for organized groups, JCPRD offers this annual opportunity for individuals and family members to enjoy the crisp autumn air from a tractor-drawn haywagon without having to worry about reaching minimum numbers or placing a deposit. Like the group program, this hayride will last approximately one hour, and will be followed by a one-hour campfire with apple cider and marshmallows. The cost is just $7 per person. Participants will meet at Site A at Oak Ridge at Shawnee Mission Park. Advance registration is required by Nov. 4. Register online today!

Behind-the-Scenes Museum Tour at JoCo Arts & Heritage Center

Interact with museum staff as you learn why we collect, how we collect, and the importance to our local community. Our collection features over 17,000 3D objects and over one million images. The Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center holds the museum’s two-dimensional collection, including manuscripts, maps, photographs, and quilts. To schedule a separate time for your group of six to 12 people, or a tour for youth, please call (913) 826-ARTS. This informative event is $10 for adults or $9 for seniors (60+), $8 for children and includes museum and KidScape admission. Register online today!
