To keep the doors open, Mitchie steps up, rallies her fellow Camp Rockers and gets them into top shape for the ultimate showdown! The Great American Family Campout

Come join us for the 10th annual Great American Family Campout. Whether you are an experienced camper or just looking for an activity to share with your family, this is your opportunity to sleep under the stars in the safety of the largest park in Johnson County. The package includes passes for one pedal boat rental and tickets to The Theatre in the Park’s production of “Disney’s Camp Rock.” As a special bonus you will receive early admittance to the show. Campers will need to bring their own camping equipment (tents, sleeping bags, etc.). Saturday evening dinner is not provided. Bagels, fruit, juice, and milk will be provided Sunday morning. *Please note SMP Beach will be closed this summer. This family-friendly event is just $30 for a family of up to 4, $10 for individuals, and three and under are free. Family Day at the Johnson County Museum

Are we there yet? Bring the whole family to celebrate America’s Mother Road, Route 66! Explore the Museum’s main exhibit featuring the 1950s All-Electric House and a 1955 Chevy INSIDE! Play in the past and serve burgers in the diner in our kid-sized community, KidScape! Interact with the photography in the temporary exhibit, “Mother Road Revisited: Route Sixty-Six Then and Now.” Have hands-on fun with activities and crafts in the museum from 11:30 to 2:30 pm. Pre-registration not required. Purchase admission upon arrival at event, $5 for adults, $4 for seniors (60+), $3 for children, and museum members are free - or register for The Doo Dads Concert and receive free admission to the museum and KidScape with event registration.

The Doo-Dads, a kid-cool rock ‘n’ roll band, was founded in 2002 by four friends and dads, all veterans of the Kansas City music scene. The band puts on a high-energy show that has every hallmark of a real rock concert - fun, excitement and…bubbles! Animal Exploration at Ernie Miller Park Amphitheater

Join one of our Park Police Officers as they tell you stories of their animal encounters in our Johnson County parks. A few critters have been spotted close to where you will be sitting! Discover how Park Police safely search for critters while protecting the animals. See cool items found in the parks and view live animals up close. Open Options Shawnee Mission Triathlon & Duathlon at Shawnee Mission Park

For 33 years the Johnson County Park & Recreation District has produced the Shawnee Mission Triathlon and this year welcomes the return of Open Options as our title sponsor. The Shawnee Mission Triathlon long course consists of a 1000 meter swim, followed by an 18 mile bike, and a 4.5 mile run in Shawnee Mission Park. The short course consists of a 500 meter swim, followed by a 9 mile bike and 3.1 mile run. The Duathlon distances are a 3.1 mile run, a 13.5 mile bike and a 3.1 mile run. Mid-Summer’s Night Cache at Shawnee Mission Park

Looking for a cool way to keep the kids busy this summer? This modern day scavenger hunt is a great way to get out of the house and get moving. Each family is loaned a GPS device and given instructions on how to find the caches hidden around the Small Lakes area of Shawnee Mission Park. Receive a prize after finding the caches, then enjoy grilled hotdogs and S`mores. Meet at Shelter #2. This two-hour session is just $11 ($13 nonresident) per person, or $29 ($32 nonresident) for a family (up to four.)
