19th Annual Panzon's Benefit Lunch for JCPRD Special Olympics

Join us for a terrific Mexican lunch at our 19th annual JCPRD Special Olympics Panzon’s Fundraiser. All proceeds from the dinner will benefit the JCPRD Rangers Special Olympics team. Special Olympics provides year-round sports training, education, and athletic competition opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Through their participation, Special Olympians are able to demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendships with their families, other Special Olympians, and the community. Your $10 donation includes a meal of 4 tacos, rice, beans, chips, salsa, and a soft drink. Neighbor’s Place Potluck at Roeland Park Community Center

Join friends new & old at the Neighbor’s Place Potluck. Once every other month, we open this room in our community center up and invite all to get together and enjoy a night of socializing and good food. Everyone in attendance brings food dish to share. 50 Plus Take Me Out to the Ballgame at Antioch Park

Travel with us as we head to Kauffman Stadium to enjoy an early spring baseball game. Game time is 7:10 pm and with the Royals winning streak last year, we can hope for a great game and a great time! Enchanted Fairytale Forest at Ernie Miller Nature Center (Show #2)

Celebrate the Magic of Nature as we discover the hidden world of the wee folk and friends, real and make believe. Follow the Pixie Path on a treasure hunt through the forest. Don’t worry about the trolls as we search for the Dragon’s Cave. Let your imagination go wild designing a fairy house and wand with the Green Fairy’s repurposing supplies. Enjoy a sweet treat at the Tea Party. The Fairy Queen will tell stories of magic and mischief. Live animals, music, and a trip through the Wish Tree make for an enchanted day to remember. Park visitors can visit activity stations at their leisure. This magical event is just $6 per person, including adults, $8 nonresidents. Advanced reservations required. Patron Appreciation Day - Various JCPRD Locations

We appreciate you! Bring the family to the following district facilities and enjoy special offerings at each on this day only. At the Ernie Miller Nature Center, enjoy a 10 percent discount on all purchases in the Nature’s Corner Gift Shop. At the Heritage Park and Tomahawk Hills golf courses, after noon, patron card holders can bring a non-patron card holder and receive a round of golf for two for $40. At the Mill Creek Activity Center, enjoy free use of fitness equipment and the walking track from 8 am to 2 pm.* At McDonald’s Field, a state of the art multi-use Sprinturf field at the New Century Fieldhouse, there will be free drop-in soccer from noon to 3 pm (be sure to bring your own soccer ball to use). At the Roeland Park Aquatic Center, there will be free open swimming from noon to 5 pm. Inside the Roeland Park Community Center, free use of fitness equipment* is offered from 8 am to noon and you can pick up a coupon for 10 percent off room rentals booked by June 5 for any 2015 date. (Note: *For safety, participants must be 14 years of age or older for these activities. Ages 14-16 require adult supervision while using fitness room equipment.)

50 Plus Cinco de Mayo Outdoor Fiesta at Matt Ross Community Center

Wear your sombrero and celebrate Cinco de Mayo! Indulge in lunch featuring traditional Mexican fare and non-alcoholic margaritas. Bring your favorite dessert to share with others. Animal Tales Storytime - Hurray, it’s May at Ernie Miller Nature Center

It’s May and spring is here - hurray! Join us for this listen and learn activity for children ages two to six as we learn all about May and celebrate spring. The 30-minute program features stories, songs and a visit from a special animal friend. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The cost of the program to be paid at the site is $2 per person including adults. Pre-registration is not required.

Family Bingo Night at Roeland Park Community Center

Turn off your cell phones, leave the tablets at home and actively participate in National Screen Free Week with a family event at the Roeland Park Community Center. Enjoy spending time with the whole family while playing everyone’s favorite game, BINGO! Prizes include games and gift cards. Dinner is included and served at 6 pm followed by 12 games of Bingo; each player receives two cards. HP3 Duathlon, 5K and 10K at Heritage Park

For 28 years the Johnson County Park & Recreation District has sponsored a duathlon at Heritage Park. In 2013 our event added a 5K and 10K. The duathlon portion of the event is for individual and teams and consists of a 3.1 mile run, 17 mile bike, followed by another 3.1 mile run. The 5K and 10K courses are in and around Heritage Park on the Streamway Trail. All participants will receive a T-shirt and finishers medal. The transition area, located in the marina parking lot, provides an exciting location for spectators to cheer on the participants so bring your family and friends for a great time. Try a new restaurant with a fun, active group of friends! Join us the third Friday of each month at a different restaurant. Locations will vary based on suggestions from members. Membership includes dining participation up to four times within a catalog season and a special notebook for writing food reviews. Overnight Fishing at Shawnee Mission Park

Grab your fishing pole and lantern for the first overnight fishing opportunity of the summer! The park will be open for fishing only and park police officers will be on duty throughout the night. Before fishing, area anglers ages 16-74 will need to have a valid Kansas fishing license, a Johnson County Park & Recreation District fishing permit, and all appropriate boat tags, if applicable. Johnson County Sailing Society - Come Sail with Us!


All sailors and sailing enthusiasts are warmly welcome to join us for lunch along with the graduates of the Sailing I class.
