1955-2005

JOIN US IN A YEAR LONG CELEBRATION!

During 2005 the District will celebrate the creation in 1955 of the Shawnee Mission Park District, renamed in 1967 as the Johnson County Park and Recreation District .

Please join us as we celebrate the many faces, places, and spaces which have been significant to the District and the community during the last 50 years. On the right is a link to highlights in the District’s history and a link to events during the year in which you, families, and friends can enjoy the outdoors and recreational play.

2005 also marks the 150th anniversary of Johnson County. As a result of a recommendation from a citizens committee appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to plan for the county’s anniversary celebration, the District and the county will join together for a Fall Fest, September 17th, at The Theatre in the Park, in Shawnee Mission Park, 7900 Renner Road.

Johnson County Community Festival - Birthday in the Park
