Hey, Kids! The Roeland Park Aquatic Center is a great place for a party! We offer a 25-meter-by-25-yard competitive pool, zero-depth entry, with fountain sprayers. Must have a minimum of 10. .About Our Early Childhood Development Centers
Our Centers are fully licensed by the State of Kansas Department of Health and Environment. A non-refundable $30 enrollment fee per child will reserve a space in early education programs. For curriculum information and classroom appointments, call Center Directors listed on this page.
REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION:
1. Successful completion of toilet training is a requirement for participation in the 3-5 year old program and full-day child care.
2. Children must meet the specified minimum age requirement by first date of attendance.
3. Proof of age is required at first class.
4. Emergency Medical Release, Health Assessment, and Personal Data Sheet must be on file the first day of attendance. Health papers can be downloaded at

5. Fees must be paid in advance of participation directly to Program Directors at the Centers.

.About our Gymnastics Programs
Our gymnastics programs are designed to provide your child with the essential foundation for all physical movement. Skilled and experienced instructors understand the importance of physical development in children, such as flexibility, strength, coordination, agility, and endurance. Starting with basic elements, students are taught, through proper progression, ever increasingly higher levels of skill. Staff will advise and make every attempt to see that your child is in the class most suited to his/her individual ability. Parents are welcome to observe class.

.Exercise, Fitness & Health - Punch Card Program (Ages 50 Plus)
Most fitness classes are punch card only. These cards allow you the flexibility to choose and try any and all fitness classes. Stop by or call any of our 50 Plus offices for more information or to purchase a punch card. Five and ten punch cards expire three months from date of purchase. Twenty punch cards expire four months from date of purchase. Class times are subject to change. All fitness classes are 50 minutes in length and on-going with no specific start date unless otherwise stated in class description. Please call your location choice prior to attending your first class.

.Preschool Childcare: Early Childhood For 3-5 Year Olds
Our Early Education Centers are open from 7 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday. Each Center features a morning preschool component, extended programming for the working parent, daily hot lunch, early afternoon quiet period, and late afternoon creative arts and socialization activities. Our program focuses on self-awareness, motor development, self-selected activity, pre-academic skills, and creative arts along with field trips, classroom visitors, and special events. Each Center is equipped with a variety of activity centers that encourage the young child to explore and understand his/her environment. Through the gentle guidance of our caring and experienced teachers, each child is able to achieve realistic goals specific to individual needs. .Summer Class Notice
There are 11 weeks throughout the summer in which students may participate in the 10 summer classes offered during the week days that they are registered for. There are 10 weeks for the 9 Saturday classes offered. This will allow for individuals to plan their classes around vacations and any other reasons that a student might have to miss a class. The class that you sign up for will be held on the same day and time for 11/10 straight weeks beginning the week of June 1.

50 Plus Games: 6th Annual 50 Plus Games of Greater Kansas City
Thursday through Sunday, September 10-13 Various Locations (Ages 50 Plus)
Whether you are a seasoned athlete who has been competing for years or a rookie who is ready to get off the couch, the 50 Plus Games of Greater Kansas City welcomes your participation. Local events provide amateur athletes 50 years of age and older an opportunity to compete against each other in sports and games for individuals, doubles and teams. Please join us for opening ceremonies at 5:30 pm Thursday, September 10 at Antioch Park. Entry fee includes T-shirt and dinner at Opening Ceremony. Registration deadline is August 28, 2009. A $5 late fee will be assessed for all registrations after that date.
Registration fee is $20 for up to 3 events. Each additional event is $5. Any court or course charges are additional. Call (913) 236-1269 for more information.

Adventure Walk: Twilight Hike (Ages 2-6 with Adult)
Explore the trails at Ernie Miller Park as the sun sets. Listen for the nocturnal sounds of a cricket’s chorus and a barred owl’s call. Gather around for stories, songs, and a tasty treat. Participants should bring a flashlight.

Gather your family together, and pick up your Passport to Adventure at Ernie Miller Nature Center. Visit participating Kansas City area natural and historical sites, and get your passport stamped each time. Answer the question on the sites’ passport page, and receive a special gift too! Adventure:Introduction to Tree Climbing (Ages 8 & Older, under 18 must have parent/guardian on site)
Do you have fond childhood memories of climbing trees or want your child to have the same experiences? This is your chance to reach new heights by learning how to ascend and descend trees wearing comfortable climbing harnesses and helmets. All equipment is provided and all knots are tied by staff. Participants should wear long pants and closed toed and heeled shoes. Participants are required to complete medical and liability releases prior to climbing. Amphitheater Programs: Ernie Miller Park (All Ages)
Fridays, June 5 & 12, 19 and July 10, 17 & 24, 7 p.m.
Bring the family to the Amphitheater on Friday evenings this summer for entertainment and educational experiences. The Amphitheater is an outdoor facility with seating for approximately 150 people. During inclement weather or excessive heat, programs will be held in the Nature Center. For more information, call (913) 764-7759. Each program is approximately one hour in length and begins at 7 pm.

BIRDS OF PREY (June 5)
- By day or by night, out of the sky flies a rodent’s nightmare, the birds of prey. Join our interpretive staff as they show why rodents fear these great birds. Using live birds, participants will see these magnificent raptors and their special adaptations.
GOBBLE, GOBBLE (June 12)
- Beginning turkey hunters can enjoy an interactive program filled with stories and information about turkey biology and habitat preferences. Maximize your outdoor experience and hunting success by learning about specialized equipment and applying a few easy techniques. Take the Turkey Toss Challenge!
SNAKES ALIVE (June 19)
- Why is it that these creatures seem so terrifying? Could all the stories you have heard about snakes be true? See Kansas snakes as we explore the facts and fallacies of these legless wonders of the natural world.
ANIMAL CLUES (July 10)
- Learn how to identify tracks, scent and other animal signs and figure out what the animals were doing long after they are gone. Learn how to “walk like the animals.” Your group will also be able to touch many different animal furs and meet a special animal guest.
OWLS: EYES OF THE NIGHT (July 17)
- Great Horned, Barred, and Screech owls make Ernie Miller Park their home. Meet three live owls as we discover more about these creatures of the night.
WILDLIFE WEBS (July 24)
- Untangle the web of Kansas wildlife as you discover food chains from the forest, pond, and prairie. These food chains will come alive as you meet and learn about a member of each food chain. What do these animals eat and who eats them?
